I know I’m late by about five days but I just wanted to mark the 20th Birthday of Linux by reflecting on how it has impacted my life. I have been using Linux for about ten years now and that goes to say a lot because Linux distributions have come quite a long way in their aesthetics and functionality.
I started using Mandrake and even SuSE for a while starting back in 2001 and during that time I was also getting into PHP and MySQL to co-found a browser-based game which for a period of time was extremely popular with thousands of players although over time the interested died off and all the developers including me had more important things to do IRL.
I think one of the first Linux servers I owned was a Cobalt RAQ which was by all means one of the worst servers one could possibly own due to its poorly developed panel software.
As someone who was an early adopter of Linux and Free Open Source Software in general its been a great ten years and I continue to learn more and more about this vibrant community.
