On Blogging Fresh Content, Not Churning

I have read quite a few articles by the experts in the blogging industry who insist that in order to ever be successful as a blogger you have to post fresh content anywhere from 3-4 times each and every single day. In fact some bloggers even hire assistants or guest bloggers to help them churn out new content.

Everyone loves stuff fresh

I personally think this is a bad idea for a few reasons the first being that there more content you churn out in a short period of time the lower the quality it will be. Historically some of the greatest works in any discipline whether it be painting, writing or even programming have taken lots of time and patience.

I think today many blogs are in such a race to churn out fresh content that often their posts are spammy or outright just a filler post. Lately TechCrunch has been doing some posts that to me and others (based on comments) seem to be nothing more than filler/churn posting.

I personally may go days without posting but that’s because I’m not blogging to make money but instead I blog purely for personal enjoyment and perhaps to share knowledge, rants and randomness with anyone interested in reading it.

In closing bloggers and even companies that own networks of blogs need to focus and be sure to curate their posts so as to not come off as a splog.

Couldn't agree more!  So many sites turn it into a game of numbers, where they just dump posts in hope something will peak your interest and grab them cheap traffic.  I find I'll stop visiting sites for long periods of time if this goes on for too long.   One of my favorites, BoingBoing, seems to do a better job of avoiding this while keeping content fresh, but even they get caught in this sometimes.

I agree with you there, I have a blog that I may go months without posting simply because I have nothing to post.
