If you are like me then you had a personal webpage many years ago perhaps on Tripod or Angelfire and back then we didn’t have Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Reddit, Digg or StumbleUpon but we did have one unique Social Sharing tool in our arsenal which was known as a Webring.
I guess to some extent people still use Webring’s but I think that many people have forgotten what a Webring was and better yet newer internet users have no idea about some of the early tools that were available.
According to Wikipedia:
A webring (or web ring) is a collection of websites linked together in a circular structure, and usually organized around a specific theme, often educational or social. They were popular in the 1990s and early 2000s, particularly among amateur websites, but have since fallen out of general use and become rare.
I think I was apart of a Webring for a few months back in the late 90’s but honestly I felt the Webring badge you had to put on your webpage was ugly and not very user-friendly so I quickly abandoned it.
Anyways I’m not getting all Nostalgic but I was out and about the other day and somehow Webring popped into my head so I wrote it down and immediately knew I was going to blog about it.
