I’m actually quite thrilled that Mark Shuttleworth decided to name the upcoming release Ubuntu after a Pangolin which is a highly endangered species that lives in Asia and sub-Saharan Africa. The main causes of the decrease in population is deforestation and illegal poaching which seems to be a major problem especially in Asia where these defenseless animals are captured kept in cages until a custom arrives they are then removed and their life is ended in a very inhumane fashion to become a meal.
I think with Ubuntu’s next release being named after the Pangolin species it would be very opportune time for those who care about these very distinct and important animals to advocate for their preservation in a most precise manner. There is a non-profit website called “Save Pangolins” that seems to advocate for the preservation of the Pangolin species and I think it would be a goodwill initiative for Ubuntu users to support that cause if they so choose.
I definitely am doing my part by blogging about this and hope you will do the same by either donating or sharing their site with your friends and family or you also share this post.
