Ubuntu 12.04 Beta 2 is scheduled for release today but despite the announcement on OMG! Ubuntu! and on the Official Ubuntu Facebook page it is still not release and since Ubuntu Release Manager Kate Stewart has yet to announce it but please do stay tuned for the official announcement and get ready for another wave of testing and bug reporting.

Actually, it had been released by the time OMG! Ubuntu! made its announcement. I know, because I was downloading it at that time. The announcement came somewhat later, oddly enough. It was available from http://releases.ubuntu.com/precise/ which is, you’ll note, an official site.
You must have confused a number of people who wondered, “Then what did I just download and install?”
ISO’s (CD Images) for future versions/releases may show up on daily builds (http://releases.ubuntu.com/precise/) many hours before the Official Release Occurs since the Ubuntu Testing Team and Developers have to make sure the ISO’s install properly before the release. In this case the release did not occur until quite awhile after OMG! Ubuntu! announced it and there was still much work being done behind the scenes.
I write for OMG and I am on the Testing Team and other teams that worked to get Beta 2 out the door.
So … should I now download the official release and install it?
@mcellius No not at all… Because when you run the update manager any changes that occurred or were pushed will be downloaded to your system.
